The foundation of our herd is the Spanish goat. The Spanish goat is a heritage breed listed under "watch" on the Livestock Conservancy website, They are a hardy and healthy breed. They make excellent mothers and are a much easier keeper than your standard dairy or meat goat. We have found them to have great feet, strong bodies and superior worm resistance.
Adding some Lamancha, Nubian, and Myotonic to our herd has allowed us to selectively breed for traits we found lacking. We were looking for good milk AND meat production, strong feet that need less trimming, and wide horns that cannot fit through fences. Our primary focus, however, is still the worm resistance like we have found in the Spanish. We use the FAMACHA method, check our EPG before worming and do our best to keep healthy rates of refugia. We cull any animal that does not fit into our breeding program. We look forward to adding more Spanish blood to our farm soon!
We breed once a year for late winter/ early spring kids. We sell kids once weaned at three months or as bottle babies to experienced owners. Our kids are never sold alone to homes without any other goats and bottle babies are always sold in pairs. A lonely goat is usually a sick goat. We occasionally have adult goats for sale as well so check back regularly!
